The Heart of the Highlands Trail System is a new concept for trails in Tucker County. This project will connect the non-motorized, multi-use trail systems of five land management agencies in Tucker County, West Virginia into a comprehensive, landscape oriented, environmentally sustainable, multi-use trail system that is accessible to the public.

The proposed 23-mile Core Loop Trail connects about 12 miles of existing trails by building three connecting segments: Splash Dam South Trail, Swinging Bridge to Cortland Trail, and Headwaters Trail. Other segments, such as the replacement of the Camp 70 bridge, will continue to link the Core Loop Trail of the Heart of the Highlands Trail System to partner trail systems and other regional trails.
