Maintenance Technician Position Description

Position: Maintenance Technician
Reporting Relationship: Facility Operations Manager and any other director-level staff
Classification: Full-time (40 hours per week)
Working Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday (flexible depending on programming needs)
Primary Location: Davis Campus, 494 Riverstone Rd, Davis, WV, 26260
Salary Range: $16-$18 per hour, depending on experience
Benefits: Accrued PTO, including holidays

Organization Summary: The National Youth Science Academy provides a variety of no-cost programming opportunities for students, teachers, and families. Our mission is to inspire a love of lifelong learning, with a particular emphasis on STEAM fields. 

Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for a variety of maintenance tasks related to the facilities and grounds. An ideal candidate will demonstrate responsibility, motivation, and a passion for mission-dirven non-profit work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the job site
  • At least one year of experience working in a similar position (internships are acceptable)
  • Ability to operate a tractor, including operating attached equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle while towing/hauling.
  • Ability to safely use a ladder up to 30 feet. 
  • Lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to:
    1. Communicate effectively in person
    2. Regularly check e-mail, WhatsApp, voicemail for work-related messages
    3. Use or learn to use necessary computer applications, programs, and systems
    4. Respond well to direction and constructive criticism
  • Basic knowledge of construction, plumbing, electrical, and automotive maintenance is a plus.
  • An ideal candidate will be able to stay organized, pay attention to details, and work in a self-directed manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (training will be provided by NYSAcademy):

  • Daily walkthroughs of grounds and facilities to complete regularly scheduled tasks and alert supervisors of any maintenance-related issues that need to be addressed.
  • Groundskeeping (mowing, edging, snow removal)
  • Basic plumbing and electrical maintenance and repairs
  • Basic vehicle maintenance and repairs
  • Assist with construction projects around campus
  • Painting and drywall repair
  • Trash removal, cleaning of mechanical rooms, and certain light fixtures.
  • Adaptable to new duties and responsibilities as needed, and able to learn new core competencies quickly and completely. 

Supervision and Performance Evaluation:

  • Supervised by the Facility Operations Manager, but can take direction from any director-level employee
  • There will be a 3-month probationary period with a performance evaluation administered by the supervisors, and a recommendation to terminate or continue employment will be made at that time
  • There will be an annual performance evaluation upon continuing employment
